September 14, 2010: A concerned voter's questions regarding Families and Fathers:

(1) What is the area of greatest need for families today?
(2) What are your feelings about fathers' rights and equity in custody decisions?

Here are Mark's quick answers to your questions:

1) Greatest need for families today is in the area of respect, honor, faith, hope, and most importantly LOVE.   When these are expressed, the family gains strength to meet the challenges in their life.  Some families will need support and that is where the neighborhoods and communities come together to share in the experiences of life and support one another.  There is a weakness in the interconnectivity of community.  So, for me, faith, hope, and love represent the area of greatest need.  Parental roles need to be understood as honorable, responsible, and accountable for the gift of children and families.  Without Faith in the Hope that the Love (God) brings to us, we will continue to experience the struggles of family breakdowns.

2) I grieve at any prospect that a child will have at losing any parent.  Custody decisions should be based on the environment that a custodial relationship would provide to the child in a beneficial way.  Fathers have equal rights towards custodial relationships as do mothers.  There should be no preconceived perspective and the facts of the situation should determine what is best for the child.

I hope my answers help you.  May God bless you with His wisdom to make the right decision.

"Thank you Mark.

September 19, 2010: How would you balance the budget?

It is a matter of perspective.  It is about Debt Management, especially in this economy.  Management that strives to reduce the debt every year with a goal of bringing the budget to a balance through a management style that does not allow the debt to grow on top of itself and beyond controls established by the debt management program.  If a budget is presented to the legislature and it contains items that are out of balance with the goal of debt management, then those items need to be reduced to a level consistent with the Debt Management's goal at the same time providing the services within reason.  Such management would consider/depend on/be reflective of the health of the economy for the years before and after the budget year.   This would be a "3 year" fiscal responsibility management program that assures the debt is an equal priority in resolving within reason as the priorities of public service operations budgeted every year.  Each year the budget is developed, it reviews economic information from the past year, for the current year, and for the next year, to assure that the budget planning is in agreement with the Debt Management program.
